Robert Whitaker began his photography career in 1964 by photographing members of the NEMS Records Stable. His most famous and enduring work was with The Beatles between 1964 and 1966. He had full access to the band at work, rest and play during their tours, at home and in the recording studio. During this time, he photographed the infamous “butcher cover” for The Beatles’ album “Yesterday and Today”. Whitaker also worked a photojournalist, covering major world events, for Time and Life magazines. He gathered some of his previously unpublished photographs of The Beatles for his successful book The Unseen Beatles. He also had a two year touring exhibition featuring previously unseen work spanning his entire photographic career, including photos of Cream, The Seekers and Salvador Dalí.
