An Excerpt from "CHICAGO 1968: THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING:"
"This book is an immersion into writer Terry Southern and photographer Michael Cooper’s experience at the Chicago Democratic National Convention in 1968. Michael, a gentle and creative soul, was not a war photographer. He captured the 'calm before the storm'—and was, as were the hordes of young people who ran for their lives from police in the streets of Chicago—thoroughly traumatized by the shocking displays of police violence during that last week of August, 1968."
"The images of conflict and mayhem reveal, in early ‘breaking news’ fashion, the stark reality of a country divided over the 'question' of the war in Vietnam. Our beloved gang (which included William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Jean Genet, Abbie Hoffman, and editor Richard Seaver) carried out their missions in different ways—and as marchers and protesters were rushed, pummeled, and treated to indiscriminate, intolerant gleeful violence, the only refuge left was in the witnessing (on television), and the shouts rang out in unison: The whole world is watching!"
