Arthur Gorson photographed Bob Marley in his home country of Jamaica while on assignment for the groundbreaking Rolling Stone article, “The Wild Side of Paradise.” The photograph was taken in a rehearsal space on Island Records founder Chris Blackwell’s property in Strawberry Hill, Kingston, Jamaica – March, 1973. That year, Marley and his band were embarking on their first European tour and recorded their first album for Island Records, Catch a Fire. Shown next to Marley is Neville Williams, bass player of the band Wadada.
